There is good reason to stand a little taller in Bredballe these days.
The town’s traditional butcher shop, Slagter Grønvall, has been named Butcher Shop of the Year within the Mad Med Mere chain. The award recognises a butcher shop that has performed at an exceptionally high level over the past year.
For owner Tom Munkholm, the award is recognition for the entire team behind the shop.
“It means a great deal to us to receive this recognition from our colleagues in the industry. We work incredibly hard every day to give our customers a great experience, and that’s what it’s all about. So this is an award we are very proud of,” he says.
Over many years, the butcher shop in Bredballe has built a strong reputation with a focus on quality, craftsmanship and excellent customer experiences — and it is precisely this combination that has secured this year’s title.
“We constantly try to develop and keep up with the times, while also holding on to the good, traditional craftsmanship. It is a balance that we put a lot of energy into every day,” says Tom Munkholm.
Strong Craftsmanship and Commitment
According to Thomas Stiller, chairman of the Mad Med Mere chain and a master butcher in Aalborg, there was little doubt that their colleague in Bredballe deserved this year’s award.
“The purpose of the award is to honour a shop that has distinguished itself over the past year. It must be a shop that protects and values our craftsmanship, follows current trends, is creative in its marketing, and at the same time delivers a very high professional standard. Slagter Grønvall does all of this at an exceptionally high level every day,” says Thomas Stiller.
He also highlights Tom Munkholm’s commitment to advancing the butcher profession, alongside the work taking place in the Bredballe shop.
“It is a shop that always presents beautifully, with a large selection of high-quality homemade products. Tom Munkholm is a skilled craftsman and a strong ambassador for the profession, and his enthusiasm is infectious — both in the shop and throughout the chain. Slagter Grønvall is a very deserving winner of this year’s award,” says Thomas Stiller.
Slagter Grønvall has been part of the Mad Med Mere chain since 2013 and is today a well-established business with deep roots in traditional butcher craftsmanship. At the same time, it is a shop with a clear focus on development and innovation.
In short: Slagter Grønvall, owned by Tom Munkholm in Bredballe, was officially named Denmark’s Butcher Shop of the Year 2026 — recognised for its quality, traditional craftsmanship, innovation, marketing and customer experience.
